Who we are

Welcome.

Imagine sitting in a cozy café with your best friend, sharing a cup of coffee. The air smells like espresso and freshly baked bread, and a soft indie song hums in the background.

This is the feeling I hope Alien Sisterhood can give you: a space where you feel safe, seen, and free to explore.

Alien Sisterhood is an independently owned community and art studio, created, run, and fueled by me, Hikaru Just.

Through illustrated lyric essays and graphic novels, I tell stories of young women, stories of survival, transformation, and the strange, beautiful ways we find ourselves again.

They are the culmination of a lifetime of drawing, writing, escaping, and turning survival into stories.

I grew up in a small town in southern Japan, a place where the world felt both quiet and heavy.

From as far back as I can remember, I was drawing, creating stories, inventing my own languages, countries, and even religions where my cat was the god. (Yes, I was a weird kid.)

Storytelling/ art became my escape hatch inside an abusive household. While other kids worried about grades and fitting in, I slipped into the universes I made on scraps of paper.

School never made sense to me.

I couldn’t sit still in a box when my mind was always expanding into new worlds.

Art and storytelling were both my survival and my rebellion.

I married young, trying to follow a path I thought I was supposed to. But the moment my eyes opened to the bigger world, I knew I couldn’t stay. That marriage became part of the past, along with a part of me that didn’t yet know my own strength.

There were years when I couldn’t even bring myself to draw. The pen felt too heavy.

But eventually, I picked it up again.
I realized it’s never too late to start over, to reclaim the parts of yourself you thought were gone.

Now, I’m based in Los Angeles, finally living as the artist and storyteller I always knew I was.

Alien Sisterhood is a space for cosmic connection and wild imagination, where you can be yourself and find your people.
